Report: Brands Caught Mislabeling Real Fur As "Faux"

1.

A large portion of the country believes that wearing real fur is morally wrong. For them, faux fur comes in handy. The only problem: some of the biggest brands have actually mislabeled some of their coats made from real fur as "faux." According to an investigation done by The Today Show's Jeff Rossen (see, early morning TV is actually good for something), an examination of a few pieces labeled as faux fur came back containing real fur.

Most real furs are expensive, as you would imagine. But sometimes the cost of producing high quality faux fur is even higher than certain types of real fur like rabbit or raccoon. So brands use real fur to curb the cost of producing faux fur from synthetic polyester and acrylic materials. As brands like Neiman Marcus, GILT, Michael Kors and Nordstrom Rack were called on their mislabeling, the retailers pointed to the brands and the brands pointed to the suppliers. It's all a complicated supply chain that keeps the customer out of the loop and leads to issues such as labeling the items as "faux" online but actually being labeled as real on the item itself. It's all kind of fucked up. But in the name of profits, companies mislead the customers yet again. The surest bet: probably just to stay away from fur-like materials altogether.
