Google just released the results of its “A Year in Search,” the annual survey that reveals the most-searched-for-terms of 2014. According to the survey, normcore was the fashion trend on everyone’s mind this year, followed closely by health goth and athleisure.

It's hard to say whether or not people were searching it due to actual genuine interest, or just to find out what it is. The actual meaning of the word has been hotly debated, and even the trend forecasting agency that came up with the name insists that everyone is getting it wrong. Needless to say, normcore was so popular it almost made it into the Oxford Dictionary this year.

Google’s search trend reports have become an interesting insight into what types of things are important to people and can be a pretty accurate snapshot of the world and popular culture at a particular moment in time.
