During one of his opening monologues for The Colbert Report this week, Stephen Colbert revealed that he commissioned French artist JR, who the comedian calls one of the "most important artists street artists working today," to install a mural on the top of the show's studio in New York City. Only visible from the air, the mural covers the entire roof and features a huge image of Colbert's eye in JR's signature style.

"I understand that giant un-blinking eyeballs of powerful beings on the top of buildings have gotten a bad rap lately," said Colbert, "but I wanted to leave you, the Nation, my watchful gaze that protected you for so long against threats that you could not see...also I wanted to freak out people stuck in a holding pattern over Laguardia."
