The Pick of Fall/Winter 2014 Menswear From London's Most Innovative Store

The best store for innovative high-end fashion and streetwear.

Since re-opening back in early 2013, Machine-A has established itself as the key London store if not one of the key stores in the world, for the sort of guy for whom high-fashion and streetwear are interchangeable concepts. The team behind the store are Brit stylist Anna Trevelyan, whose clients include Nasir Mazhar and V-magazine, and Greek born Stavros Karelis the store's owner. Machine-A's emphasis is on a sort of youthful, club ready but also inherently design savvy futurism and stocks Japan based labels Cav-Empt and D.TT.K, Belgian design gawd Raf Simons, Dior Homme designer Kris Van Assche's own line, and newcomers such as Roxanne Farahmand. Stavros is often in the store working alongside his Japanese staff and is a walking, talking real life style-pedia; it's worth going in to buy something just to learn a bit more about garms, fashion and the way the business works. Over the next 11 slides Stavros talks us through this season's key drops.

1. Christopher Raeburn Remade Sheepskin Bomber Jacket

Christopher Raeburn gets a lot of respect because he's one of the best there is in Britain at fabric research and the use of recycled materials for his

collections. This sheepskin bomber was produced in a limited run of 50 and has been reconstructed from Russian deep winter Siberian

sheepskins. 

2. D.TT.K Snowman Jacket

D.TT.K is one the most exciting emerging brands from Japan. We've been D.TT.K's exclusive stockist in London for the last two seasons. Detto the guy behind the brand experiments with different materials and fabrics to produce what feels like very hi-tech streetwear. Standout this season is

‘SNOWMAN’ jacket made with fake fur and nylon . His garments are always so detailed.

3. Kris Van Assche Padded Shirt

Kris Van Assche is putting out some brilliant stuff at the moment, this padded light blue shirt is simple and well tailored but when you touch it or wear it it feels clever and fresh, it's also a jacket almost like a bang up-to-date, high-fashion flannel shirt. 

4. Cav Empt Arm Band Hoodie

C.E aka Cav Empt are currently one of the most talked about Japanese based brands. Founded by Sk8thing and Toby Feltwell in reaction to ubiquity of mid-century heritage brands a couple of years ago, they not just produce a great collection, especially the prints every season but also because they have created a whole new universal language between their customers and the brand. 

5. Nasir Mazhar Metallic Three Layer Shorts

Nasir Mazhar's viewpoint on fashion and the collections he produces are the essence of what MACHINE-A stands for as well. Nasir’s aesthetic and style capture exactly what London is. Through his army of followers and fans he's managed to establish a brand that has really created a niche of it's own. The metallic three layer shorts are just stunning. It's something to do with the colour, the weight, and the way they hang in an unfamiliar but somehow kinda powerful way.

6. Hyein Seo Oversized Bomber Jacket

Korean born Antwerp graduate, Hyein Seo is a Machine-A exclusive for the UK this season. She's a prodigy of Walter Van Beirendonck's, another piece we're stocking is a huge oversized ghost fur coat emblazoned with FEAR in giant lettering.

7. Raf Simons Sterling Ruby Denim Trousers

Raf Simons' early collections are already appreciating collectable assets and the Sterling Ruby collection looks set to build on that legacy. These trousers have been constructed from a hand worked fabric created by Los Angeles based artist, Sterling Ruby himself. It's one of the most mesmerizing iconic prints menswear has seen in many many years. I'm sure it will become a reference for many other designers. 

 

8. Roxanne Farahmand Motor Racing Inspired Jewellry

Roxanne Farahmand showcased her motor-racing inspired jewelry and accessories collection at the beginning of the year at London Collections Men. It is very difficult to find an exciting menswear jewellry designer and Roxanne has created a very strong collection that boys relate to. I particularly like the VOLVO ring as well as the TOWER piece both are like motor-racing goes Transformers or something.

9. Sibling Workman's Denim Jacket

Sibling are a British label that have pushed the boundaries to reinvent knitwear design. With denim one of the main trends this season this 'workman's denim jacket' with knit patches is a more subtle example of their work.

10. Alex Mattsson X Caterpillar

Alex Mattsson collaborated with Caterpillar and they produced these white boots. These are my favorite shoes of the season. The fact that they're all white makes the chunkiness, the amazing details like velcro belts and different kinds of leathers blend together and easy to wear.
