Visvim and the brand's designer, Hiroki Nakamura, have a reputation for making the highest-quality workwear goods. Now, Mr Porter has created a video that takes us behind the process of creating a piece for visvim, and also gets into the designer's inspirations and aspirations.

The most stunning sequence shows the very intricate dyeing process. "Natural indigo has its own personality," says Nakamura. "It is a live bacteria. He has to feed them, he has to take care of them everyday." The video tours through the site of the Japanese artisan that uses traditional dye, which Nakamura says he loves because it's how denim and workwear in the past was made.

Nakamura also discusses how Tokyo's distance from the U.S. really allowed him to absorb a range of styles, including vintage, workwear, and Americana. And although visvim is known as a Japanese brand, he tries to take advantage of the rest of the world to create the best products.

Additionally, he says that while he is not trying to produce the same objects made in the 1800s and 1900s, he is trying to learn from them in order to "pass something to the future." He says, "That would be kind of a dream."
