Eggplant emojis and winky faces will only get you so far in this world. The current crop of emojis on your phone are cool, but they get old really fast, and sometimes they just aren't good enough to convey the message that you're trying to send. The Unicode Consortium will add new icons soon (perhaps a taco?), and there will be a more diverse selection of skin tones which is great, but what about those late night texts that aren't necessarily about food?

The Flirtmoji App has all the bases covered for your private (and explicit) correspondence with that special someone. From sex toys and dripping candles, to gerbils in condoms and latex BDSM masks, a team of four artists made sure that they included a wide range of emojis to "empower people of all sexualities to communicate their desires, concerns, and flirtations."

In an interview with The Verge, Flirtmoji artist Katy McCarthy spoke about how the project came to be and a few of their sticker design choices. "All four of us had experience with jokingly and poorly substituting the existing emojis into text conversations to try to communicate sex, and it never worked," McCarthy explains. "The game-changer came because one of the guys in the group was having really elaborate texting engagement back and forth with a long distance girlfriend. We realized that we needed to do this, to draw up sex as icons, and make it completely comprehensive, funny, and diverse."

When asked about the lack of body hair on the Flirtmoji icons, McCarthy said that whether or not to include it has been "really contentious and funny and also a major design issue, all while being a major conceptual necessity to all of us. I support hair; I have hair. I think it’s really important, and actually making it come across has been incredibly difficult. But we do have a few new ones that have hair, and we’re working on it."
