It is still a mystery as to why the iconic chain completely closed up shop around the country earlier this year.

Pearl Paint customers (and employees) were shocked and confused when the iconic art supply chain began closing its stores abruptly this past April. The New York Observer declared the chain "officially extinct" when the last two existing stores closed in Florida over the summer. All that's left are "CLOSED" tags on their numerous Yelp pages, abandoned social media profiles, and lots of unanswered questions.

The company recently posted a message to their customers on their website (above), thanking them for 81 years of patronage. We're not sure why anyone would still be clicking that bookmark, but if you do, you will be directed to a company called Moecker Auctions Inc. that deals with liquidations and asset appraisals, and Michael Moecker & Associates, where you can register to view the Pearl Art and Craft Supply case file.

The message from Pearl was a great and sincere gesture, but the mystery remains.
