The not-incarcerated street artist known as Banksy had a mural defaced with a giant penis in Folkestone recently, but that's ok because he already has a new piece up in Bristol.  The piece is a recreation of the classic painting Girl With a Pearl Earring by Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer, but with a twist that aligns it more with the work that you'd expect from Banksy.

Instead of a pearl, the girl in the painting is rocking a ADT security alarm in her ear, prompting some to refer to the piece as Girl With the Pierced Eardrum. The mural doesn't feature the stencil style that many associate with Banksy, but instead looks like it was created with a makeshift fire extinguisher painting device. The artist posted a photo of the piece on his website, so we know it's legit, but no one has tried to remove the wall...yet.

UPDATE: According to The Guardian, the mural was vandalized 24 hours after it was painted. Ellie Morgan, part owner of the recording studio where the piece was painted, told the press that it was "a real shame" that ruin the artwork. "One of the bands that was recording came in and said someone had thrown paint on it. When we went out it was still wet and dripping. Banksy had already been back to touch it up once. Hopefully he will come back and touch it up again."

At least the splatter didn't reach the girl's face.
