The best new designs are the ones that feel like they should have been around for decades and make you angry that you didn't think of them first. That's exactly how we feel about this Sweeper and Dustpan by Jan Kochanski.

There really isn't much to say about the design because it speaks for itself. The handle of the broom slides into the handle of the dustpan and features a loop for hanging the conveniently sized pieces of the product together. The designer writes on his website that "most of dustpans sold are a design of low aesthetic value. My intention was to design a simple, refined in form and functional solution – an object enjoyable to use." He goes on to explain that "the key innovation is the use of the dustpan’s handle as a funnel...The sweeper is made of natural horsehair and beechwood, because natural hair sweeps better than its synthetic equivalent. The wooden handle covered with oil is nice to touch, well balanced and comfortable to hold."

Why can't everything be this simple and smart? Some designers feel the need to show that they are masters of form and can make stuff in crazy shapes that somehow pay homage to the history of design...but their products are usually shit. More like this, please.
