"Who Pays Artists" Helps Creatives Learn Their Worth

Artists share their experiences and rates for commissioned work to help others earn fair wages for comparable work.

Inspired by the "Who Pays Writers?" website, "Who Pays Artists?" is a new resource for artists to share their experiences with commissioned work so that other creatives will know how much to charge for similar projects. From photography jobs for neighbors in Brooklyn, to an internet blog residency for SFMOMA, artists fill in a template that says how much they made, who the job was for, and their level of experience in the discipline.

Unlike the WPW site, WPA doesn't have a search feature right now, so it's a little harder to weed through the submissions, but there aren't that many entries yet so it's not an issue. In theory, the site will be a valuable tool for lots of artists who want to be paid fairly for their work but aren't sure what that means. We hope the site is successful and think that you should check it out for yourself now.
