The First Tattoo Studio for Children Opens in the UK (Sort of)

"My First Tattoo" is the world's first tattoo shop just for children.

Many people regret the cheesy quote, uninspired graphic, or high school sweetheart's name that they got tattooed on their bodies when they turned 18. But imagine living with a tattoo you got when you were 10 years old, or younger.

Sadie Hennessy opened "My First Tattoo Shop" as an art project, not a real business, in Whitstable, Kent, UK. She branded it as the first tattoo shop for children, hoping to provoke a discussion about the sexualization of youth. To her surprise, some crazy parents actually wanted to get their kids tatted up.

While many (rational) people were outraged with the shop, Hennessy received 10 genuine requests for children's ink jobs right away. She said the divide between criticism and actual business requests was split down the middle.

"I’m not doing it to make a fool out of people," she told the UK Metro. "I’m just trying to get people thinking about these issues about our children growing up too quickly. I was worried by children wearing T-shirts saying 'Future Porn Star' and thongs for young girls and the shifting morality about what is acceptable for our kids. Children should be children for as long as they can be."
