At first glance, these murals appear to be rather uninspired street art, but they are actually humorous, intricately crafted trompe l'oeil works by French artist Patrick Commecy and his crew from A-Fresco. Empty building façades became the perfect canvases for hyperrealistic images of windows, balconies, and doors from which important historical figures and French celebrities lounge about and peer down from into the streets below. The works are so well done that it’s often impossible for people to realize that they’re just paintings until they’re only a few steps away.
