83-year-old Italian graphic designer Massimo Vignelli has a long list of iconic designs to his credit, including branding for American Airlines, Bloomingdales, and IBM, as well as the map for the New York City subway system. According to Creative Review, Vignelli is "very ill" and in his last days, he and his son Luca are asking "all those for whom Vignelli was either an influence or an inspiration to write him a letter."

"Luca has visions of huge mail bags full of letters," says Michael Bierut of Pentagram. "I know that one of Massimo's biggest fantasies has been to attend his own funeral. This will be the next best thing." This is both sad and awesome that fans of a legendary designer have the opportunity to make him happy at the end of his life.
