You probably only know her name and face because of her role as Jessa Johansson on Girls, but Jemima Kirke actually has a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and is just as much of a legit artist as she is a legit actress. At Fouladi Projects in San Francisco, Kirke is currently showing a collection of new portraits in a solo exhibition entitled "Platforms."
In their write-up for the exhibition, Artnet writes that "the portraits share a particular sensibility with Girls in their sympathetic portrayal of young people with pronounced personality, quirks, and weakness as well as fundamental humanity, carefully, even lovingly depicted." Her work has been compared to that of Alice Neal, one of Kirke's many artistic inspirations along with Egon Schiele and Thomas Eakins.
