Jason Wishnow left New York to become a filmmaker in Beijing, and through a series of fortunate events, he is now finishing a project called The Sand Storm starring famed Chinese artist Ai Weiwei and shot by cinematographer Christopher Doyle. The "dystopian science fiction film set in the not-too-distant future" will be Weiwei's acting debut (unless you count his "Gangnam Style" music video as acting").

According to the Kickstarter project description, he will play "a smuggler in a world without water, as told through the lens of a personal, human drama." Wishnow, Weiwei, and Doyle need $33,000 to pay for visual effects and other finishing work. The filmmaker explains that they waited until after the film was shot to begin crowdfunding because they shot it all under the radar to avoid being "sabotaged." Check out the project video below, and donate if you can because we desperately want to see this film reach its full potential.
