At the beginning of March, French photographer and street artist JR opened a retrospective at Museum Frieder Burda in Baden-Baden, Germany. The exhibition features snapshots of JR's public works from throughout the years and the very photographs he used in his street installations for international projects like Face 2 Face, the Wrinkles of the City and Women Are Heroes. In conjunction with the TED-prize-winning artist's Inside Out project, visitors can also snap a portrait of themselves inside a photo booth at the museum.
While 2013 was a big year for JR, who was busy photographing and flyposting his iconic black and white images on building walls in various places like New York, L.A., Havana, Spain, and China, this year has been just as eventful for the French artist. Back in January, JR teamed up with New York City Ballet, decking the walls and floor of David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center with his monochromatic photos of the ballet dancers.
In just a few weeks, however, JR's work will actually take the stage for New York City Ballet's 21st Century Choreographers Week. Beginning April 29, JR will debut a collaborative piece he's been working on with both the company's dancers and Memphis street dancer Lil Buck. It will also feature original music by Woodkid.
