Jantina Peperkamp is a self-taught Dutch artist working in Holland. She has recently gained critical acclaim for her incredible photorealistic paintings. While she enlists the services of models, she insists that each work is a self-portrait; she searches for, and finds, herself in each of her subjects. The final result is a dynamic hybrid of the model and the self, rendered in acrylics on wood. The images are hyperrealistic and entrancing.
“It strikes me that there is always a certain loneliness and desolation in my paintings. I don’t make it deliberately; it just happens and I recognize it,” the artist says of her work.
