A few weeks back, I was traveling to London for The London Men's Collections, which is basically London's version of New York Fashion Week for menswear, and I kept hearing rumblings about some new, secret, and posh hotel that had just recently opened, and that everyone was telling me I needed to stay at. Normally, I would avoid places that my cool friends recommend, but this time around, their recommendations paid off, and I booked a short stay at The London EDITION Hotel.
The hotel, which is designed by The Ian Schrager Companyand New York-based firm Yabu Pushelberg, sits just a few blocks away from The Sanderson (another Schrager designed property). It took over the space of the historic and legendary Berners Street Hotel, which is right off Oxford Street in the heart of the city.
Now for the good stuff. Never have I ever felt more at home in a hotel in all of my life. I found myself inviting everyone I knew to gather in the lobby for drinks at the lobby bar or for a game of pool, or handling a little business (I was there for work after all) in their more private Punch Bar, which is more quiet and secluded, where you can try one of their daily house made punches. Then there is the nightclub downstairs, which is perfectly curated; it's not too stuffy, but you also can't walk off the street and expect to get in.
The room is exactly what I think everyone wants when they are away from home. It's comfortable and understated while still feeling luxurious. There was plenty of room (I'm a guy who travels with a suitcase or three, so I was even able to get a clothing rack to set my room up like a department store...excessive, I know).
Originally I was set to be there for three days, and I was set to stay at another hotel for the remainder of my stay, but after the first night, I extended my stay for the extra time I had to be in town, and needless to say, I miss my home away from home.
