Theaster Gates is an installation and social practice artist who buys abandoned properties in Chicago and turns them into functional art spaces. Through his art, Gates aims to revitalize poor communities by "creating an amenity in a neighborhood where there were seemingly few amenities." During the interview, Stephen Colbert seems genuinely impressed by the art that Gates creates and what it means for Chicago. At one point he asks the question: "Do I have to get your houses to enjoy your houses, or can I just be in them."
