10 Art Events to Check Out at SXSW 2014

As new technology increasingly becomes a part of our daily lives, museums must find ways to remain relevant in an age where anyone with a Tumblr considers himself a curator. This presentation will define the role of a curator in modern society and explore different methods that technology can increase or decrease the activity in museums.

From Jay Z's performance in Pace Gallery to Lady Gaga's album art collaboration with Jeff Koons, it's undeniable that the music and art worlds have come together in new ways over the last year. The presenters in this event will discuss how these two art forms, visual art and music, come into play with one another.

"Crowdsourced Art" will examine how the Internet serves as a way for audiences to engage with and serve as co-creators for a work of art. With even Marina Abramovic relying on Kickstarter to fund her new museum, it's clear crowdsourcing will be an increasing outlet to find funding for projects.

Artist Michael Sieben is showcasing a series of presentations up until the beginning of May in Austin. This one in particular will coincide with SXSW, where Sieben uncovers Girls Gone West, the journey of five young artists as they take a week-long road-trip.

Mondo gets artists to design limited edition and incredibly cool posters for popular movies. For SXSW, they partnered with Disney to push out some designs for classic animated flicks, taking us down memory lane with all of the best Disney films and characters.

The indie craft marketplace, known as The Renegade Craft Fair, will showcase work from a series of talented artisans, impressive installations, and workshops on the indie craft movement for SXSW.

"The Biggest Collaborative Street Art Gallery" is a Brazil-based street art project that started on Instagram. The combination of talented artists and the power of the digital world has gained the gallery 780,000 plus followers on their social media account. The presenters will speak about their journey to this major accomplishment, as well as their future plans regarding urban art.

Obey the Artist traces the career of legendary street artist Shepard Fairey, from when he used to rig copy machines and tag the streets, up to when he established a successful brand. This film follows Fairey as he works towards his own independence as an artist.
