Barbie dolls probably weren't your go-to toys to play with when you were a kid (or maybe it was, whatever tickled your fancy), but anyone can appreciate the latest sculptural installation Annette Thas has built on the shores of Cottesloe Beach in Perth, Australia.
The Belgium-based artist created the piece entitled Wave 1 for this year's Sculpture by the Sea. Inspired her own childhood memories, Thas amassed a massive collection of Barbie dolls she bought from thrift stores and constructed this tsunami of dolls, over 3,000 to be more precise. It's 12 feet wide and towers 9 feet above viewers. Each Barbie is supposed to be a symbol of the doll's former owner, too. Check out the video below to see the installation up close.
