Walking Architecture, dreamt up by Universal Everything’s Matt Pyke, presents the viewer with a figure that seamlessly transitions from a human shape into various architectural forms and structures. As the familiar being walks, it beings changing shape, taking on beveled geometric features at one point and then morphing into a pliable lattice a few moments later.

The project was inspired by architecture firm Archigram’s visions of futuristic cities, where cities were portrayed as organisms that continue on with their lives even as their physical makeup is altered. The project’s name was also inspired by Archigram. Walking City, spearheaded by Ron Herron, invented a clan of wandering robot buildings that could choose their own destinations.

“The language of materials and patterns seen in radical architecture transform as the nomadic city walks endlessly, adapting to the environments she encounters,” Pyke explains.
