New York-based artist Kevin Cyr’s latest (and largest) exhibition, entitled “Right Place, Right Time,” will be at Jonathan Levine Gallery from Feb. 22 until March 22, 2014. The exhibition will feature his signature silkscreen portraits of derelict vehicles although this collection was chiefly inspired by vandalism and imperfections he observed in Paris, Brussels, and Berlin. The oil paintings come in various sizes and feature some of his favorite themes: transportation, travel, and exploration. In his artistic mission statement, Cyr bemoans society’s obsession with status symbols, believing that used and abandoned objects have a history and a character that imbues these vehicles with a rich meaning and speak to the soul of the city. Cyr seeks out these unique vehicles and commemorates them, capturing a place and an ethos that is often overlooked.
