For the past few months, Daniel Arsham has been toying with the idea of future relics, re-imagining cellphones, keyboards, cameras, and various works of modern technology as corroded ancient artifacts. In April, however, the Brooklyn-based sculptor will open his second solo exhibition at OHWOW Gallery. Our guess is that Arsham will be showing a whole new kind of relic at his upcoming show "Kick the Tires and Light the Fires."
This morning, Arsham posted an Instagram video of a deteriorating basketball made from glacial rock dust and quartz crystal, entitled Eroded Basketballs. The video gave viewers a close-up look of the spots Arsham has meticulously dabbed onto the crumbling Spalding basketball.
"Kick the Tires and Light the Fires" will be on view from April 5 until May 4. While we tremble at the thought of a world in which basketball has become obsolete, we're excited to see what the rest of Arsham's exhibition entails. Peep his video below:
