Mexican studio BNKR Arquitectura’s “Social Topography” project in Juarez, Mexico, aims to raise awareness of sustainability issues by constructing temporary formations from materials that, when disassembled, are not thrown away but put back into use. This year, a group of 30 architecture students used 5,000 Coca-Cola crates to erect a pavilion in the middle of the city’s annual book fair. The pavilion is a place where people can sit and read, play, or simply take a breather. The pavilion can also function as a stage for musical performances and lectures. Once the book fair is over, the soda crates will be returned to the company where they will be up-cycled back to their original function.
