Creative consortium teamLabhas designed an exhibit that celebrates the beauty of homogenization. On display at the Hong Kong Arts Centre in China through Jan. 14, the installation features dozens of illuminated orbs floating in the air. Individual balls change color when they are touched by visitors, when they bump into things, and when they receive other types of shocks. Once an individual ball is disturbed, it sends a signal via wireless communication to other, nearby balls telling them to change to the same color. The visual changes are accompanied by sounds that relate to the colors.

With the introduction of the Internet, individuals became connected in ways they weren’t before. Information now travels back and forth at light speed. The instant information is released on the web, it spreads and unifies people all over the globe. These immediate and never-ending interactions are what teamLab hopes to mimic with their installation.
