While we’ve known for a while about the destruction of the former American Museum of Folk Art building across from New York’s Museum of Modern Art, and the plans to level the space were finalized only on Wednesday, we hadn’t yet caught a glimpse of the proposed replacement structure. Today, we’re seeing the first look at plans and renderings of the MOMA expansion that takes the place of the folk art gallery, by the design firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro. Expanding the current MOMA footprint to two additional sites, in New York City’s Midtown Manhattan, this redesign allows for ground-level gallery space and includes a new entrance to the museum’s sculpture garden. Check out a preview above.
