There are plenty of fall/winter exhibitions showing at Paris Fashion Week, and one thing is clear, besides the fact that Paris Fashion Week sucks: everyone's looking for the next thing. Now that the public is in the throes of sportswear, and the shine from the streetwear-to-runway move has started fading, designers are displaying their takes on what's to come.
For its ready to wear collection, Maison Martin Margiela presented looks that used the past as the vehicle for the next thing - tent scraps and dinghies were re-purposed into parkas, a diving vest was given new life as a biker jacket. Loose, single-pleated pants and slouchy jackets gave off a throwback, zoot suit vibe - talking, like, the 1920s here, with those brogues too. MMM also took on some past elements from the deconstructionist movement, when the Parisian brand really made its mark over 34 years ago.
