Zappos has just named André Leon Talley its new arstic director, reports WWD. Talley, a former Vogue editor, will oversee Zappos Couture business, which carries higher end brands (note: not shit products) than what the site usually offers.

According to Jenniger Sidary, head of couture at Zappos couture, the company is "really looking to become the destination in online luxury shopping." She told WWD that they hope the one-year partnership with Talley will help develop the relationships with brands they need. Talley will handle everything from photo shoots, personal picks, and editorial content for the Zappos Couture site.

This is another surprise move from Zappos, following its response to Kanye West's comments about its products. But if the goal is to shed its discount-shopping image and instead attract a more high-end clientele and expand its luxury brand offerings, that is more likely with Talley on board. After all, Talley brings over three decades of experience as Anna Wintour's right hand man at Vogue and probably has tons of relationships with the luxury brands Zappos Couture wants.
