PETA has made it clear that it's against fur. But in an unexpected turn of events, the organization has started giving away free fur jackets.
According to a blog post on PETA's website, it will be gifting the less fortunate with some luxe fur jackets—real ones too, not something from the "sample sale" racks on the streets. "PETA has long said that only people who are truly struggling to survive have any excuse for wearing fur," a statement on its blog read.
PETA started the new initiative in Detroit, where the people are facing both tough economical times and harsh winter weather. They gave away 100 fur coats, plus leather jackets, wool scarves, and angora sweaters to those in need.
"While we can't bring the animals who were slaughtered for fur, leather, and other skins back to life, together we can help bring a little warmth to poeple in desperate need," PETA said. Meanwhile, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Jay Z and Beyoncé, and the rest of the one percenters of the world are not PETA-approved.
This news comes as a bit of a surprise, but damn, thank PETA for this act of kindness this holiday season.
