The sweetest thing you’ll see all day: Berlin-based artist Joseph Marr has been creating Renaissance-esque statues using preserved sugar that are enticing and extremely life-like. The sweet medium has a purpose, however. “Candy is a wonderful medium to show two things… how we are trapped in the sticky situation and how attractive the tasty desire really is,” Marr explains. It is the perfect medium for exploring man’s feelings of lust and desire.

Some of his sugar works, which come in a variety of flavors, capture the dark side of these emotions, instilling in the viewer reverence and fear. He reminds us that our passions can be exhilarating, but they can also be consuming.
