You probably wouldn't expect to see Carmelo Anthony rubbing shoulders with art world elite, but earlier this year the New York Knicks player was spotted chatting with Jeff Koons at the launch of Koons' Dom Perignon balloon sculpture.

Now Melo is taking a page from the master of inserting himself in the art world—Jay Z. Describing his new sneaker, the Jordan Melo M10, Anthony says in the video above, "Then we came up with this masterpiece, this 'Picasso Baby.'" The comparison refers not only to Jay's hit single, but also to his performance piece at Pace Gallery where he danced with Marina Abramovic, an act that spread like digital wildfire across the Internet. Perhaps Melo hopes his new kicks are as viral.

The Melo M10, designed by Tinker Hatfield, celebrate Melo's 10th anniversary in the NBA. According to Anthony, they are his "most powerful shoe to date" and include his iconic cursive "Melo" logo. The sneakers are set to launch on Jan. 4, 2014 for $175.
