Two days ago, Kanye Westcommented on Zappos' products during the hour-long podcast he went on with Bret Easton Ellis. West said Zappos, an online shoe and clothing shop bought out by Amazon, sold "shit product."

"I got into this giant argument with the head of Zappos, that he's trying to tell me what I needed to focus on," the rapper said. "Meanwhile he sells all this shit product to everybody, and his whole thing is based off of selling shit product."

The quote was picked up by tons of people and media, and has received a lot of attention since the podcast went live.

Yesterday, Zappos and its CEO Tony Hsieh, the "head of Zappos" Kanye was referring to, replied with a quite literal interpretation of Ye's words.

Hsieh said, "it's true that we sell shit product," and a link was dispersed out by the company that leads to its "shit product" page, where Zappos has a $100,000 toilet and plunger for sale.

The description of the shit product includes:

  • "Interested in buying sh-t product? You've come to the right place! Here at Zappos.com, we happily sell sh-t products to everybody! This is the throne, everyone has been watching. Whether you're #1 or #2, your clique will show no mercy, even in Paris. "
  • "The perfect gift for the man that has everything."
  • "Requires lots of 'focus' for most productive use."

The response from Zappos, a company bought for $1.2 billion, is kind of surprising. Instead of keeping mum, or releasing an inoffensive statement, Hsieh and his team are basically trying to fan the flames to their advantage. Kanye may be one of the most web-savvy celebs out there, but it's not like Hsieh and his company are virgins of the Internet. They obviously know how to gain attention by trolling.

West responded to Jimmy Kimmel when the late night host mocked his Zane Lowe interview. We'll have to wait and see if he fires back at Hsieh. Who knew Yeezy season would prove to be so entertaining?
