MTV has tapped Shepard Fairey to be the executive producer of a new six-part documentary series entitled "Rebel Music" which takes a look at the role that art and music have played in Mali, Egypt, Afghanistan, Mexico, the Middle East, and India during times of political unrest. "It mirrors what I believe is important in my art practice -- the marriage of art and activism," said Fairey in a phone interview with the LA Times. The artist created print promotions and visuals for the project. He made it clear that the concept was not his own and that he is being paid, but his involvement is primarily because he "believes in it." The series will debut on November 18 on mtvU, a cable channel broadcast exclusively to college and university campuses around the country.
