This Plantable, Garden-Growing Wrapping Paper Isn't a Total Waste

A great gift wrap yields more than meets the eye.

In an age marked by high consciousness of environmental problems, rationalizing something as frivolous, wasteful, and yet as simple as wrapping presents seems like an exercise in futility. But a new Kickstarter project seeks to take the waste out of all that leftover gift-cover.

Some clever Brits, under the name Eden’s Paper, have designed a series of wrapping papers made from 100-percent recycled paper, embedded with different vegetable seeds. Currently, the start-up has five vegetables ready to grow from the dregs of Christmas coverings: carrot, tomato, broccoli, chili, and onion. After you unwrap your gifts, it simply falls to planting the excess paper in your garden bed of choice and waiting for the results next spring.

Here’s the video:

You can donate about $8 for a roll of the stuff, which may help stave off some of that existential guilt built into the excess of Christmas these days.
