This Mirrored Shack Installation Mimics and Transforms the Landscape of the Desert

Artist Phillip K. Smith III built this "Lucid Stead" installation with mirrored panels around the exterior that reflect the desert and create an optical illusion of a disappearing structure. At night, the 70-year-old shack becomes a glowing beacon that definitely sets itself apart from its surroundings. The colors become bolder as the sun sets and the colors shift. Photographer Lou Mora spent 14 hours shooting the structure to get a range of cool lighting against the mirrors. Smith
