To say that Meres One and the other street artists in New York and around the world are pissed off would be an understatement. In case you missed it, the graffiti center 5 Pointz in Long Island City was completely whitewashed by it's owner Jerry Wolkoff as he and developers get ready to destroy the building to make room for two high rise apartment buildings. Meres One, one of the artist's involved in making the space what it was and the curator of the project, returned yesterday with friends, a ladder, and aerosol cans to paint one last mural over the freshly buffed walls. He painted "Rest in Power" with the 5 Pointz star logo and the words "Enjoy your legacy, Gerry!" next to it. According to Gothamist, other tags went up on the building including the words "This was an act of hate," and "We want to win just once."

UPDATE November 21, 2013 2:43 p.m.: More of the property was whitewashed last night, including the protest pieces that Meres One and other writers painted a couple days ago. Tiernan Morgan of Hyperallergic took a few photos of the freshly buffed areas including the one below. A tweet was sent from the @5PointzNYC Twitter account that read "So just witnessed the last pieces being whashed away including cortes which was on ply wood and salvable , such a waste / genocide completed."
