Back in September, Grand Valley State University removed their bifular pendulum sculpture from the grounds because students wouldn't stop re-enacting Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" video on it. Many of the parodies involved clothing, but there were a brave few who went the distance and stripped down to ride the huge swinging ball. So many people had been riding the sculpture that it allegedly caused the cable holding the ball to fray, creating a safety hazard. The 40-year-old ball and cable will be reinstalled on November 12 along with educational signs and "a reconstructed site that limits access" to the work of art. Maybe the students will respect the university's wishes and stay off of it...but probably not. The power of Miley is too strong to resist.
