A mere ten years after initial plans for Frank Gehry’s Grand Avenue project in Los Angeles were disclosed, the renowned architect has unveiled another design for the three-acre site. Following a rejection of Gehry’s original concept of the $650 million retail, hotel, and residential complex, the architect submitted new plans on November 25 for approval by Los Angeles city officials.
Take a look at a couple models of the new design above. As noted by The Los Angeles Times, it is much more angular than the fluid curves typical of Gehry’s work—including the structures of his original proposal. After Gehry’s first design was rejected, the committee in charge of construction sought out other firms, but ultimately returned to the Canadian-American Pritzker winner. Construction on the as-yet unapproved design is set to begin in 2015 with a slated completion date for 2019.
