These Circular Shots Are Some of the First Amateur Photos Ever Taken

Now that almost everything has a built-in camera, it's hard to believe that the commercial camera was only introduced 125 years ago. Some time ago the National Media Museum made a collection of the surviving photos taken with that Kodak 1 camera available on their Flickr page completely copyright-free. The photos look like your typical vintage family photos except for the fact that they're circular instead of the rectangular format that we are used to. The Kodak 1 was created by George Eastman of the Eastman Kodak Company in the late 1880s and used a sector shuttle, lens board, and a key to wind the film to the next frame. A lot has changed over the past 125 years, but these original amateur photos are still amazing.
