It’s the end of an era for Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton and the beginning of a new one for Nicolas Ghesquière. According to Luxury Society, the French designer has been named the new Creative Director of the luxury house.

Ghesquière is the former designer for Balenciaga, and parted ways with the brand last November. The fashion giant did not confirm his new position at LVMH, but it’s no big secret that the two have been talking for months. When the word officially comes out, it won’t be such a big surprise.

Marc Jacobs 16-year reign at the LV saw a lot of high profile collaborations. He also placed importance on the brand’s leather goods, especially handbags, and his shows were hard to top. However, this isn’t Ghesquière’s first time in the rodeo. His runway ready-to-wear collections have always been impressive, and his work at Balenciaga is widely hailed as bringing the house to the forefront of sexiness, edginess, and producing the most dynamic work out there.

These skills will definitely carry over to his new position at LV and keep its bags selling like hot cakes.  No news yet on when he will show his first collection, but place your bets on Spring/Summer 2014.
