The other week, M.I.A. casually announced that she had a Versus Versace collection coming out in two weeks. Well, those rumors are completely true, and the Italian brand announced via WWD that the collection would be releasing on October 16.
Lucky for us, the efforts aren't just for the ladies. The capsule collection will contain 19 items total, including some stuff for dudes. Oddly enough, the clothes are inspired from those who try and knock off Versace: counterfeiters.
“I adore the energy of the street, so when M.I.A. proposed to expose the issue of counterfeit Versace pieces by creating a collaboration inspired by these items, I thought it was an incredible idea,” Donatella Versace said.
The collection is loud and print-heavy, from the button-down shirts to the matching jeans, but there are also plain bomber jackets that are super casual and versatile. Unlike a lot of gear from the fashion house, this partnership is full of pieces that average folks can wear. According to M.I.A., this is the clothes are meant to bring the Versace designs full-circle and make them slightly less baroque than you'd expect.
"Versace’s designs have always been copied, now it’s Versace that copies the copies, so those that copy must copy the copies. So this will continue,” M.I.A. explained. Follow that?
