The Most Famous Gallerinas in Pop Culture History

Year: 2013

Jelly Howie plays a killer gallerina (literally) in an episode of the Florida homicide show The Glades. Adding the stereotype of a femme fatale on top of the stereotype of a gallerina is a little much, but we aren't complaining.

Year: 2006

Brook Meyers is successful and highly revered by her eccentric boss, but she and Vince Vaughn are having some problems at home and get into a custody battle over their luxury condo. The movie is really funny...until the end.

Year: 2010

This Woody Allen film (like most Woody Allen films) is a love or hate kind of thing for a lot of people. Naomi Watts not only has to deal with her parents' problems, but she has to compete with Freida Pinto for her husband's attention while figuring out her feelings for her boss, Antonio Banderas, at the gallery where she works. Not the happiest of tales for the gallerina in this one, but if you like Woody Allen's sense of humor then you would probably enjoy it.

The image above is the tame version of the poster, but there is nothing tame about Kim Basinger's character in this movie. Things get pretty steamy between her and Mickey Rourke's character John. The film was sold as an "erotic story" and has an R rating, so you can imagine just how much assisting goes on here.

Lindsay Sloane doesn't get much screen time in the gallery in this flick, but one of the best scenes in the movie is when Mark Wahlberg stops by to tell her how much he wants to be with her and ends up embarrassing her in front of her artsy co-workers and friends.

Rosario Dawson in or on anything is gold as far as we are concerned (including the first issue of Complex Magazine). In this film, Dawson's character is mixed up in a complicated lust story with Steve Buscemi, Malcolm Gets, Carol Kane, Adrian Grenier, Jill Hennessy, and Michael Imperioli. It currently has an 18% on Rotten Tomatoes, but most people only see it because of Rosario anyway.

Out of all the gallerinas in the world, Jenny Summers is the one you want on your side in a tight squeeze. Not only is she great at selling art, but she helps Eddie Murphy take down her boss. What more could you ask for?

Who knew we would ever see a reality show about gallerinas? Bravo follows the lives of seven young women in New York who try to balance their art world lives with their busy social lives. If you think the gallerina life is all sunshine and roses, watch this show.

Based on the real art gallery owner, Parker Posey's performance is among the most important on this list. Without Mary Boone, there may not have been a Basquiat, Schnabel, Salle, or many other artists that she helped enter the art world in the early 1980s.

Most people forget that Blanche worked as an assistant at an art museum. She isn't as young as your typical gallerina, but she was smart and definitely knew how to take care of business, which she proved by going on to run her own hotel.

Marnie Williams seems to have the ideal job and life, but she isn't exactly happy with the way things are going. Gallerinas have problems too, you know. At least she has her "girls" to talk to when the #artlife doesn't go the way she planned.

The most recognizable gallerina in pop culture history has to be Charlotte. Sex and the City definitely changed the way TV writers think about female characters, their jobs, and their sex lives.
