Beginning October 25, Sean Kelly Gallery will show works by abstract artist Callum Innes in an exhibition entitled "LIMINAL", his first exhibition with the gallery since they opened their new space. Innes' large oil paintings are unique subtractive pieces, meaning that the artist applies paint and then washes it away using turpentine, "unpainting" the canvas to make the pieces just as much about the process as they are about the finished product. The simple geometric shapes in pieces like Exposed Painting Blue Lake/Carmine become very complex and interesting forms. "LIMINAL" will show parallel to an exhibition of work by James Casebere. For more information on both artists and their upcoming shows, visit the Sean Kelly Gallery website.
