Check out these vaguely haunting images of Invena, aka “the blue staircase to nowhere,” by Italian design firm Ecru Architetti. By inserting the object into an abandoned space, the contrast between the staircase and the surrounding area is heightened. The perspective of the viewer from inside the building creates an optical ploy, as if the staircase reaches out of the building and into the infinite expanse of the sky.
“In the making of architectural space, it attacks beginning the slow process of nurturing and reactivation, punctuated by unexpected contamination, landing and flight, climbs and descents,” the firm says of the project.
