Banksy seems to be getting later and later. After a post around 3 p.m. yesterday, we had to wait until after 6 p.m. today to see the newest piece by the anonymous street artist. This work, called Bronx Zoo on Banksy's website, is located across the street from Yankee stadium at East 162nd Street and Jerome Avenue.
The piece features a wildcat whose pelt is spotted with graffiti tags instead of spots. The feline perches on a yellow line of paint. Gothamistpoints out that the work's name might refer to the fact that Yankees earned the name the "Bronx Zoo" between 1972-1981 because of the fighting between George Steinbrenner, Billy Martin, and Reggie Jackson. We're not sure how up on his baseball history Banksy is, but the context does give the work a New York-specific meaning.
UPDATE October 31, 2013 at 8:50 a.m.: Kanye tweeted the new piece with the hashtag #GODLEVEL.
