Just when you thought it was over, the tale of 5 Pointz adds another chapter. Recently we told you about an agreement that was reached during a NYC City Council meeting that would mean union jobs, designated art space, and panels for murals outside of the new construction planned for what is currently the 5 Pointz property. In an unexpected turn (to us, anyway), a lawsuit has been filed against the developers which cites a "violation of the 1990 Visual Artists Rights Act" according to DNAInfo. Never before have graffiti artists attempted to use legal action to protect their work in this country, but 5 Pointz is hopeful that they will set the precedent and preserve the site two decades in the making.

We would say that this is the last shot for 5 Pointz, but who knows what else could happen between now and the end of the year when the builders hope to begin demolition.

UPDATE October 22, 2013 7:50 p.m.: Judge Frederic Block has granted 5 Pointz a restraining order that means that no demolition or new murals can be done to the site for the next 10 days. According to the LIC Post, after 10 days, Judge Block could "announce a hearing for a preliminary injunction," which would further postpone the demolition and call the 17 artists that filed the lawsuit to testify.
