Artist Tom Sanford has a passion for art and for New York City. His exhibition entitled "Café des Artistes" features caricatures of some of the city's well-known "cultural figures," including Tina Fey, Spike Lee, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Mike D of the Beastie Boys, Woody Allen, and ESPO. The show opens September 7 at Kravets/Wehby Gallery, but Sanford took some time recently to talk with ANIMALNewYork about a few of the pieces in the show and about his relationship with the city. He tells ANIMAL that the show is named after a famous restaurant that once sat in the lobby of a hotel on the Upper West Side. The portraits are colorful and insanely detailed, placing celebrities into scenes that are undeniably "New York."
