A new website called Streetmix allows users to "mix" and "remix" virtual streets in order to see how different urban design impacts community. The site turns the streets into pieces of digital art, rather than making art on the street itself—so, technically this is street art?
It's easy to get obsessed with trying to recreate a favorite block in your city. Luckily, users can save different street mixes, share them, and learn from a variety of configurations. It's not clear how much you actually learn about your community in this static environment, but with a rise in consciousness of urban planning, especially in the wake of the Travyon Martin shooting, Streetmix gives people a way to think about the space they live in.
