The American Museum of Natural History in New York makes creatures from across the planet and throughout history come alive with life-sized displays. Giant skeletons of dinosaurs transport you to the Jurassic Period while a replica of a great white shark takes you deep below the sea. These fantastic displays have been enchanting viewers since 1869, and this series of photographs from the Museum of Natural History's archives shows how museum employees over 100 years ago installed the museum exhibits.
In the 1990s, the museum relied on plaster casts, pulleys, levers, and other non-digital technologies, to assemble its displays. According to Gizmodo, the Museum of Natural History still uses these techniques, and even more impressive, the institution is still able to fascinate visitors (for the most part) without computer, TV, or, iPhone screens.
